How DREAM was formed

DREAM was formed in October 2004 by Brenda Taylor who lives in Yeadon, North West Leeds. After a hospital admission and returning home she was experiencing social isolation and the lack of opportunities for disabled people aged 18 - 65 to meet in her area. Having concluded that there must be other people in the same situation, DREAM was formed with initial support from VA-L and L.I.P.

DREAM caters for people with any disability aged between 18 - 65, who live in North West Leeds, as there is a shortfall of social care provision for this age range. Carers and volunteers are welcome to attend. The group is user led.

The aims of DREAM

Combat social isolation
Support disabled people’s recreational needs
Share information and sources of assistance to aid independence and life planning for disabled people
Build a local resource / information base around disability issues
Be available to share information with the local community
Be involved in the planning and development of local services that affect disabled people.
